Municipal official held for corruption

Mafikeng - The suspended manager of Madibeng Municipality, in North West, will appear in court in Orkney on Wednesday for alleged corruption involving a R100m tender, an official said.

Co-operative governance spokesperson Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika said on Tuesday that the manager was expected to bring a bail application.

He was arrested towards the end of 2010 for the alleged tender fraud.

"An extensive audit conducted on capital expenditure projects in the municipality revealed financial mismanagement of project funds in excess of R100m," said Qinga-Vika.

The audit had also probed the municipal infrastructure grant and department of water affairs projects.

I am quite sure all concerned Madibeng residents would like to know if this is indeed our Philemon Mapulane, the ex-municipal manager of Madibeng who was suspended with full pay of R100000 for over a year before being sacked in December 2010, and subsequently being redeployed by the Provincial Government of North West as their Treasurer?

    We are all ears...
