Pretoria - Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa has hit back at reports that he has seven bodyguards.

He says that his security team is made up of seven “protectors” who work different shifts and that one person is dedicated to scheduling these shifts.

City Press reported last week that Ramokgopa had seven bodyguards, a figure listed in the City of Tshwane’s annual financial statements.

The existence of seven guards, or “protectors”, was also confirmed by an official in the municipality.

But Ramokgopa said he had two bodyguards by his side at all times, two “protectors” at his home during the day and two at night.

The seventh person, he said, was responsible for scheduling and planning whether extra security was needed when visiting a volatile area.

He insisted that the same arrangement applied to all other metropolitan municipalities in the country.
