DURBAN – National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, said a child positively identified the four Moti brothers which led to the boys reuniting with their family, three weeks after they were kidnapped.
Speaking to eNCA, Naidoo said the boys were dropped off in Vuwani on last night, just over 100 kilometres from their home in Limpopo.
He said the boys were dropped off between 10pm and 11pm in Vuwani.
“They made their way to the first house they found and fortunately one of the children in that house immediately recognised the children as being the four boys reported as missing or abducted. They asked their parents to assist by calling the police and we were able to reunite the children with their parents,” he said.
In an earlier statement, Naidoo said Zia, Alaan, Zayyad and little Zidan Moti were on their way to school in Polokwane at about 7am on Wednesday, October 20, when they were taken at gunpoint by their abductors.
He said a group of men with rifles and handguns cornered their vehicle and forcefully removed them.
“On Wednesday night the police in Vuwani received a call from a local resident saying that the children arrived at their house saying they were dropped off on a nearby road,” he said.
Naidoo said SAPS arranged a doctor who confirmed that the children are in good health before they were handed over to their parents.
“The children also appeared to be in high spirits during the reunion with their parents.
“The children have not yet been interviewed. Investigators will arrange for the SAPS psychologists to assist with that,” Naidoo said.
He said police are investigating a case of kidnapping.
“Generally, in a live kidnapping case, we never speak about it in fear of this potentially placing the lives of the children at risk. But I can tell you now that we are still investigating a case of kidnapping,” he said.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist with information that will help bring the kidnappers to book, to contact the police.
Information can be communicated via the SAPS Crime Stop number 086 00 10111 or via MySAPSApp. All information will be treated with strictest confidence and callers may remain anonymous.
The Moti family has meanwhile thanked the SA community for their prayers.
“We are thankful that they were set free and when we received a phone call to fetch the children we rushed to the scene full of hope. All of South Africa supported us and we want to thank one and all for their support and kind prayers. We are looking forward to healing as a family and will appreciate some privacy for a while. We will talk to the media within a few days,” the family said.

THIS IS WHERE THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE KIDNAPPING BEGINS.
THIS CASE IS FAR FROM BEING SOLVED.
ALL PERPETRATORS MUST BE BROUGHT TO BOOK.
THE DEATH PENALTY SHOULD APPLY FOR THIS TYPE OF CRIME!.

A forensic consultant and criminologist, Paul O’Sullivan said kidnapping syndicates are usually a mixture of Pakistani and Mozambican citizens and sometimes dirty police are on their payroll.
“This is not a new trend and it should be very worrying for the government, as this is the kind of crime that negatively affects internal investment and tourism. The prevalence seems to be highest among members of the Indian community, ”O’Sullivan said.
Marí Lategan, Curro executive of corporate services and spokesperson, said they support both law enforcement and the family.
“Everyone from Curro Heuwelkruin and the rest of Curro held the boys and their families together with their thoughts and prayers,” he said.

Crime Without Justice
ReplyDeleteWe live in a dysfunctional society,
Where criminals come as a variety.
Where life is very cheap;
And not your own to respect and keep!
Cops and robbers call the shots.
While murder and hijacking stays tops.
You cannot distinguish between friend and foe.
Not knowing to which side to go!
Cops took an oath to protect and serve.
Sometimes leaving you with more than you deserve.
They take your life and rob your car,
Leaving you to bleed while not getting far!
Is this what we call a civilised race,
Or is it just one big disgrace?
It's up to you to decide.
I hear a siren and I am going to hide!

ALISTAIR ANDERSON
Zunaid Moti, the largest shareholder in Rebosis Property Fund who was once on Interpol’s wanted list, says his plan to move more than a fifth of its almost R10bn debt load off the company’s balance into a special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been shot down by the beleaguered real estate firm’s largest creditor, Nedbank.
Under the plan, Moti would team up with a group of investors in KwaZulu-Natal, represented by lawyer Manoj Maharaj, to put R4bn worth of new income-producing properties into the SPV to serve as collateral for the R2bn debt that should be moved off the company’s accounts. Some of the income from these new assets would be used to pay down debt while Rebosis’s existing portfolio takes care of the loans on its balance sheet...
