Members of a Facebook group, who regard the men as heroes, are expected to come out in full force.
Several members of the group have already indicated on its homepage that they have taken the day off work to offer support .
When the unit's leader. Major-General Johan Booysen, and 11 of his subordinates applied for bail yesterday heavily armed police stood guard to fend off supporters, family members and journalists trying to get into the courtroom.
Booysen and the men were arrested on Tuesday, almost two months after another 18 policemen were taken in and charged with murder, theft, defeating the ends of justice, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The 12 men were yesterday released on R5000 bail each.
Though the state did not oppose Booysen's bail application, it asked that he be ordered to hand in his police cellphone and his passport.
The indictment against the 30 men consists of more than 100 charges.
