Four arrested in Makhado for planned rhino poaching

(Gallo) 14 JAN 2013 16:58 - SAPA Four men have been arrested for allegedly planning to hunt rhino in the Waterpoort area, near Makhado, after police received a tip-off. Further investigations revealed two other suspected poachers were still on the farm. "With the assistance of air support provided by the local farmers the men were arrested while trying to leave the farm." The fourth man, a employee on the farm, was caught late on Sunday evening. He was found in his room on the property. "A hunting rifle, an axe as well as the vehicle used by the suspects were confiscated." They allegedly fired shots, but no rhino was harmed. They face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
