Two die in money dispute

4 May 2010, 09:22

Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide related to a contractual dispute in Mulbarton, south of Johannesburg, police said on Tuesday.

Warrant Officer Bert Otto said a contractor and the chief executive officer of the Aspen Hills residential estate had argued on Monday.

The CEO was shot twice in the chest, and the contractor appeared to have shot himself.

Otto said that initial investigations indicate that the argument was about money.

Both died on the scene.

The Star reported that the contractor Harold du Preez owed R1.4-million to CEO Allan Goldring for building more than 30 houses.

This was in line with a reported agreement that contractors on the estate pay Goldring a commission of 1.5 percent for every unit they erected.

Contractors the publication spoke to said that the commission system was unique to the estate and not popular. - Sapa
