Cape Town - The SA Police Force would continue to "clean out" corrupt members from its ranks, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa vowed on Tuesday. In a statement issued by his ministry, he stressed that the force belonged to "law-abiding, morally upright and committed cops" only. There were currently 37 former police members in prison, Mthethwa said.Convicted police officers are automatically dismissed in terms of the Police Act."We have 190 000 members and in most cases, the 37 people arrested and convicted were initially arrested by other police officers."This highlights that while there may be a few rotten elements within the police, the service as a whole remains committed to rooting out such criminal elements," he said.
