Durban - An elderly couple were found dead in the back of a vehicle in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
"It would appear that the couple were assaulted with a blunt object, but a post-mortem will be held to determine the cause of death," said Colonel Jay Naicker.
A passer-by notified police of a white Volvo sedan that had been left in a ditch on Thursday night.
When police arrived at the scene they found several items in the vehicle and discovered the bodies of a woman and man in their sixties in the back of the car.
"Investigation revealed that the couple [were] residents in the Woodgrange area. [They] were possibly attacked at their home, robbed and killed and then placed in the back of their vehicle," Naicker said.
It was also thought that the perpetrator lost control of the vehicle while driving and fled on foot. The couple's house was found ransacked, he said.
