7 August 2010, 20:42
A policeman was shot and killed, allegedly by an escaping prisoner at the Bellair police station, in Durban on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
"Three prisoners overpowered the officials... stole a policeman's gun and shot him in the head," said Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge.
"The policeman died at the scene."
The incident happened around 1.30pm.
Three of the prisoners were caught but one got away, he said.
Spokesman for Netcare 911, Jeffrey Wicks, said the man "sustained a single gunshot to the head and several wounds to the chest". - Sapa

Something smells 'offish' here!
A police officer is not allowed to go into a cell armed?
Where was his back-up?
The station commission should be arrested for running a dysfunctional station!
