R10m drug bust in North West
21 August 2010, 13:12
A drugs laboratory has been discovered and two people were arrested in Klerksdorp, North West police said on Saturday.
"The bust [by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Unit] followed an intensive undercover investigation conducted after the police's elite unit were tipped off," said police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi.
Twenty-one kg of final product of what is suspected to be Tik, with a street value of R10-million, was found.
Two men found inside the house were arrested. Police also found chemicals, raw-materials for drug production and equipment used to manufacture drugs.
Metsi said the police would be investigating the "operational network of this drug manufacture and dealers".
He said the two men, aged 27 and 28, will appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate's court on August 23 facing charges of the manufacture of drugs and keeping a drug laboratory. - Sapa
