Four ATM's bombed in Lyttelton

Police said four ATM's were bombed in the Lyttelton Shopping Centre on Wednesday morning.

Residents were rudely awakened by what sounded like a bomb blast at around 02:00 in Lyttelton on Wednesday morning.
"We heard a loud sound like a bomb blast in the early hours on Wednesday On my way to work I saw that the ATM's in the centre were bombed," said Paul Stander, a Lyttelton resident.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the blast happened at the Lyttelton Shopping Centre.
"Three men armed with rifles and pistols entered the
Lyttelton Shopping Centre at around 02.00 on Wednesday. The men bombed four standard bank ATM's but only managed to take money from two of the ATM's."
Gumba said the men fled in white VW polo with an undisclosed amount of money.
He added that no one was injured in the blast.
"No arrests have been made yet and police are investigating the matter," Gumbu said.

ATMs blown up at Spar shopping centre in Highveld, Centurion. Didn't make the news!
As the title suggests, three ATMs (2 Absa and 1 FNB) were blown up and looted 4AM this morning (19 Aug 2012) at the little shopping centre in Highveld which houses the Spar, and other stores.
Woke up from the explosion, and listened to the gunfire for several minutes. I intentionally stayed awake to listen to the first responders, and there were none... I hope that it's just protocol for them not to use their sirens at 4AM otherwise they took more than 30 minutes to arrive at the scene.
I looked on all of the major news sites and none of them even mentioned the bombing. Apparently ATM bombings don't even make the news anymore...

Johannesburg - Police are on the lookout for a gang who bombed an ATM at the Eldoraigne Village Shopping Centre in Centurion, outside of Pretoria according to an Eyewitness News report.
Security guards were apparently held-up by a number of men early on Saturday, who then bombed the cash machine.
They were interrupted by police and a shoot-out ensued.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said the robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

JOHANNESBURG - A manhunt has been launched for three men responsible for an ATM bombing in Lyttelton, Centurion.
According to police, the suspects detonated an explosive device on Thursday.
Several shots were also fired during the incident.
The armed men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Nobody was hurt in the robbery.
The police's Linda Jerling said, “They [the suspects] fled [the scene] in either black or blue BMW with unknown registration numbers. A case under the Explosives Act will be investigated and no arrests have been made.”
