Moepi was auditing for Public Protector

JOHANNESBURG – It's emerged murdered forensic auditor Lawrence Moepi was also handling investigations for Public Protector Thuli Madonsela. Madonsela spoke about Moepi at a conference on governance this morning.
The respected auditor, who worked at Sizwe Ntsaluba Gobodo, was gunned down outside his office in Houghton on Friday morning in a suspected hit. The Public Protector called for a moment of silence for Moepi before saying he met an untimely and violent end. She said Moepi was working as an external auditor for her office and had finalised at least one case.
Madonsela says he was working on several other cases. Moepi has been described as a talented workaholic and a loving father, who was also investigating allegations of financial mismanagement at the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu). Police are searching for four suspects in connection with his murder, but are yet to make any arrests. (Edited by Tamsin Wort)
