A man who was allegedly involved in the robbery of R10-million from an SBV depot was arrested on Thursday, the Hawks said.

Spokesperson Musa Zondi said the suspect, who police had been looking for "for some time now", fired at the police and they reacted, leaving him with three bullet wounds.

"Police received information about his whereabouts. He had been on the run since the December 31 robbery involving R10-million."

Zondi said the suspect realised he was being followed and ran.

"He was cornered near a building site just off Watermeyer N4 offramp. Realising there was no escape, he started firing at the police and jumped off his moving car. He tried to flee but could not make it."

Police retaliated and arrested him. He was taken to hospital under police guard.

The suspect and six others, who are behind bars, allegedly walked into the SBV Management Centre and stole the money. They were allegedly helped by three security guards who were also arrested later. - Sapa
