Members of the Durban Bomb Squad proved they were more than just explosives experts when they intervened in a robbery in Phoenix on Thursday. One suspect was shot dead and another arrested.
A member of the unit was waiting to be picked up for work at his home at about 6.10am when he heard screams from his neighbour's house.
Two armed men were trying to force their way into the house, but the woman living in the house managed to push a sofa in front of the door in an attempt to keep the robbers out. The policeman ran to his neighbour's house and the robbers fled. He then contacted radio control.
His colleagues, who were only blocks away, picked up the call and spotted the fleeing men in Brookdale. The robbers shot at the policemen who returned fire, killing one of the robbers.
An alleged robber was arrested by the Phoenix Crime Prevention Unit.
The dead man was wanted in connection with several other robberies in the area.

Great work chaps.
We all know who manufactures home-made firearms in KZN.
It's a cultural thing!
