The defence in the Jackie Selebi corruption trial called in former national police spokesperson Sally de Beer as a witness in the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.

Brigadier De Beer, who worked as Selebi's spokesperson during his tenure as police commissioner, told the court how a journalist called her about two documents -- one labelled confidential -- about which the journalist wanted to interview Selebi.

She said she had then called Selebi, and later met him and the journalist and several police commissioners at Wachthuis to discuss the contents of the dossier.

One of the documents contained information about Selebi receiving monthly payments of R50 000 from Clinton Nassif, a man accused of removing slain businessman Brett Kebble's car from the murder scene and cleaning it up before it underwent forensic examinations.

Selebi's PA Eunice Grove will testify after De Beer.

Selebi has pleaded not guilty to a count of corruption and another of defeating the ends of justice in connection with at least R1.2 million he allegedly received from various people in return for favours. - Sapa

The Bold and the Beautiful.

What more could Selebi want to 'Seal' his fate!

Like the Xmas envelopes!

He danced with the Devil.

To his own peril!
