The teenage AWB youth leader who threatened the life of his ANC counterpart Julius Malema has gone to ground.

Leon Geldenhuys, a 17-year-old Grade 10 pupil, who was forced to resign from the far-right-wing movement after telling Malema to meet him down the barrel of a gun, is in hiding.

Last week, the Sunday tabloid Sondag reported that Geldenhuys had been exiled to Australia. But this week the family denied this.

Family spokesman Andre Geldenhuys this week said they would not reveal any details of his whereabouts.

"When the time is right we will give the media a press conference, if that is what Leon wants. But not now," said Geldenhuys.

Leon is believed to have had a very close relationship with murdered AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche, and because of this he was popularly known in AWB ranks as Klein Eugene (Little Eugene).

Terre'Blanche was murdered on Easter Saturday in his bedroom at his dilapidated farmhouse on his farm outside Ventersdorp, amid rumours of a sexual tryst gone wrong.

On the day of Terre'Blanche's funeral in Ventersdorp, reports emerged that investigators had found a condom at the scene.

The condom was the subject of heated denials among police and prosecutors, but ultimately, after local detectives were pulled off the case and replaced by the Hawks, national police commissioner General Bheki Cele admitted there had been semen on Terre'Blanche, who had been discovered with his pants down around his ankles.

Puna Moroko, the lawyer representing 28-year-old Chris Mahlangu even claimed that Terre'Blanche had tried to sodomise his client and his 15-year-old co-accused, but later withdrew this statement in court.

On the day of his death, Terre'Blanche also bought a considerable quantity of alcohol, which he apparently shared with Mahlangu and the 15-year-old youth.

New AWB leader Andre Visagie condemned the sexual assault allegations.

"The media must choose now whether they want to regard Terre'Blanche as a racist or as the rapist of a black youth," he told City Press.

Police and prosecutors also vehemently denied the claims.

They admitted, however, that the AWB leader had been found dead on his farm with his pants pulled down to his knees.

They insisted that the killing was over a wage dispute, but are now exploring the possibility that the killing was an act of self-defence.

In March, Leon sent Malema a public warning, ordering him to stop singing the "Shoot the boer" song.

He told him: "Malema, if you want to meet me through the barrel of a gun, then we will do that.

"The farmers have a reputation of world-class soldiers."

But a week later he resigned.

Not only had he annoyed the AWB leadership, but his press statement also got him into hot water with his mother.

"He is just a 17-year-old child," she told a journalist who contacted her for comment. "You can think for yourself what would happen after that press statement went out.

"What is he going to do if Malema's men arrive here at the farm? There are no AWB leaders here to protect him. His father is also very angry with him. We will have to take him out of school now. His life is in danger.

Later, when Leon was asked about his statement, he said it was not a threat to Malema, but merely a warning.

Leon's "warning" followed Malema's outburst of "Shoot the boer! They are rapists!" to a group of University of Johannesburg students.

In his now notorious press statement, Leon said: "The ANC accuses the white man of racism in the so-called apartheid era, but the white man never went and sang 'shoot die k*****s'."

He later told a journalist to remove the word "k*****s" and replace it with the words "blacks" because he did not want to annoy the AWB leadership.

Leon has been missing since Terre'Blanche's death.

His Facebook profile has been deleted.

Leon's aunt Adele Kuit, with whom he and his mother lived in the year running up to Terre'Blanche's death, said she could not speak to the media because other journalists had misquoted her.

She said Leon had been taken from her after the statements he made.

She said she had wanted him to be taken to a safer place because she feared for his wellbeing.

"I was very worried that Malema would come after him. He is only a child."

She had no idea where he was, she said.

Kuit said Leon had been very close to Terre'Blanche.

"They had a father-son relationship," she said.

I cannot agree more: The ANC as the government of the day should be putting SA first and not the well being of the ANC. The ANC leadership should give a clear signal that it is still commited to multiracialism, because from where I sit it seems as if DoubleThink and DoubleTalk are in progress: a racist government saying one thing but doing the opposite. A good signal would be to guarantee at least one Afrikaans university, much as Madiba allowed the continued existence of the Springbok. The following step would be an invitation to the whites to form a traditional council such as the tribal council of traditional blacks. Once this is formed the ANC should negotiate a new constitution to protect the country's minorities, because one thing is sure: intense infighting or plain duplicity within the ANC is preventing the govermnent from protecting its minorities.

As my father always says: fighting in Rugby is a sing of bad refereering. Racial squables in SA is not due to white or black racists but due to poor government!

What exactly is this idiot hiding from?
Nobody even knows him let alone cares about him including his own family. Why does every single wannabee have to use Malema's name to get some form of recognition? Pathetic

This whole thing stinks, I am not a racist but we are all tired of racist people of colour screwing up the country.Whites are desperate.Malema and racist blacks are causing whites to show racism out of fear. Zuma should stop this as he is supposed to be the leader.ZUMA AND ANC, WHY ARE YOU LETTING THIS HAPPEN, WHERE ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU SO QUIET? Are you enjoying this torture and mind games and are you egging on a racist war?I live overseas and am helpless but I see what the International comunity see and we think that ANC stinks

Leon should just relax and wait for someone in the ANC youth league to 'sort' Malema out. Every body wants to be the chief, and they will back stab one another, much like Mbeki was done in by Zuma.

Viva Leon!!.....if they can say those things, why cant he?
